12 Days of Christmas: Day 2

Well, we’ve received quite a positive response from all of you guys in regards to our 12 Days of Christmas giveaway! That’s what we like to hear!

How are you celebrating the first few days of the Christmas season? Currently my kiddos are napping and I am watching The Holiday which quickly jumped up my list of favorite Christmas movies a few years ago. (Even though it technically isn’t a Christmas movie … just occurs around that time.)

I have yet to put up our Christmas tree, which is pretty ironic. When I was 35 weeks pregnant (and massive) with my daughter I went and purchased a Christmas tree and put it up entirely on my own. My husband was out of town training and I just couldn’t handle the fact that it was December 20th and I had no tree up yet. Needless to say I got yelled at it and spent the rest of the evening laying on my couch working through some contractions. NICE. Don’t do that. Anyway … I guess since I’m NOT pregnant I really need to get that tree situation rectified. Preferably before December 20th.

So … are you ready for Day 2 of our little DIY Christmas Projects/Giveaway?!

I am … Here’s what we’re making!

Christmas “Sharpie” Mugs!

You have definitely seen these all over Pinterest/Internet. And maybe you have tried them, but they haven’t really worked out for you all that well. Well, I’ve done some trial and error and found out a way that they do, in fact, work!

Now I am sure you have seen them done on plain white mugs, but I was really feeling the look of these glass ones. Especially paired up against the gold marker.

Here’s your Shopping List:

1. Paint Marker – Fine tip (This is important. Do NOT purchase a regular Sharpie or permanent marker. It MUST be a PERMANENT PAINT MARKER.)
2. Clear or White Mug

You will also need:

3. Rubbing alcohol &  cotton balls
4. Paper & pencil
5. Tape
6. Oven
7. Oven time for at least 8 hours.

Total cost? Less than $10 for TWO MUGS!

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Clean the exterior of your mug with some rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. Allow to dry. Reserve a few cotton balls both dry and wet with alcohol to clean up mistakes.

Step 2: Trace or free hand onto paper your design. Scribble with a pencil on the back for transfer.

Step 3: Tape your design down and trace onto mug.

Step 4: Remove your paper carefully and begin drawing with your paint marker over the traced lines.

But … OOPS! You made a mistake. What do you do?!

Take those cotton balls that are wet with alcohol and wipe away. Comes right off!

Step 5: Place your mugs in a COLD oven and turn it on to 350-375. If you are using a ceramic white mug you can set the temperature as high as 425, but because I am using glass I erred on the side of caution. Set your timer for 30 minutes and walk away. When the timer goes off simply turn off the oven and allow the mugs to cool along with the oven. I left them overnight. Which is why you should reserve this project for a time when you don’t expect to use your oven for at least 8 hours – not including your 30 minute heat time.

Step 6: Wrap it up in a cute bow and attach a sweet little note telling your recipient how to care for their mug. It’s quite simple, actually! HANDWASH ONLY! No scrubbing the exterior. No dishwasher. I have seen tutorials where people have sprayed the exterior with a sealant. I chose not to do this option out of protection of our winner as I simply don’t know if it is okay to use a sealant on an exterior of a mug. If you use it let me know how it goes!!

Our winner will be receiving these hand “painted” mugs to gift away or to use for some hot cocoa for a movie night with their sweetie.

But not only that …. I’m throwing in a bag of the WORLD’S BEST CHRISTMAS COFFEE PERIOD.EVER.PERIOD.

I swear. I promise. I vow. The best, best coffee ever.

My husband even likes this coffee. We’re talking about a guy who likes the strong stuff. There’s no way to describe it. I can’t explain what it is. It’s Santa and Christmas and delicious in a bag. And it is perfect paired with your new Christmas mugs. 🙂

Well, that’s it for day 2. Are you excited?! Remember: On Day 12 we will be attaching the Rafflecopter for entry. The entry period will only be for a short 48 hours, why? Because we want to mail the winner their items so that they have them in time to enjoy & gift for the Christmas season! It is important that you come back on December 12th and get those entries in. You don’t want to miss this!

I’m excited.

See ya tomorrow for Day 3!

Happy Tuesday,
