My dad has a theory – ice cream fixes everything. A few weeks ago I posted on my Facebook that I had tested this theory on my husband during his “Today is Sunday and that means I have to go back to work tomorrow” funk. I was happy to report that a DQ Blizzard did the trick. He was a smiley man once more.
Because my husband loves me and he knows that I love any new kitchen gadget he purchased me a KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker attachment for my stand mixer. Let me tell you … I don’t use it as much as I should. Since our anniversary was this past week I decided it was as good of a time as any to make ice cream. Especially since he was out of town for our anniversary … oh and we found out at the same time that we have less than a month to move to a different state.
Let’s just say I ate a disgusting amount of gelato the past few days. And tomorrow I will regret said gelato.
I went ahead and used the recipe that Saving Room for Dessert wrote – inspired by Making Artisan Gelato. I highly, highly recommend.
The only thing I did differently was omit the unsweetened cocoa and just used a full bag of 60% dark chocolate chips. And of course I added a little drizzle of peanut butter, chopped almonds, sea salt, and more dark chocolate on top.
Okay … I went a little heavy handed.
I don’t have a recommendation on what ice cream maker/machine is the best. I love and overuse my KitchenAid so it made sense to just purchase the attachment. It works GREAT. So I can recommend that one.
I will note – the reason why gelato is a lot smoother than ice cream is due to the amount of air whipped into the base. You can’t really control that with your standard old ice cream maker. I did set my attachment on a little higher speed to add a little bit more air, and I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted and “felt” like gelato to me.
If you love dark chocolate and you love ice cream you need to try this! If you don’t like either … then we probably aren’t friends.
And you should leave this blog immediately.
You are not welcome here.
I kid, I kid. I’m sure Sami has some super healthy, granola recipes on here that you can view and enjoy. And add to your tasteless, unhappy life.
My husband has a friend who doesn’t like mayo. Or ketchup. Or ranch. Pretty much any condiment he hates. I don’t even know why we call him a friend anyway. That’s some negativity I don’t need in my life. I don’t need that crap rubbing off on my kids.
Ok. Middle child rabbit trail. Back to it …
Haven’t eaten dinner yet, but I know what’s for dessert.
Well, I’m off – my husband is making me dinner and I’m on bath duty. Yeah, sometimes we like to switch it up.
Once a year …
If you have Pinterest (and an ice cream maker) you can follow my Ice Cream Maker board!
Happy Monday, friends!
