the domestic tales of four sisters

Sweet and Salty Brownies

Last Thursday, around 6pm, I was reminded of a family gathering that was to take place AT MY HOUSE the following evening. This gathering would include as many of the brothers and sisters that were able to make it plus out of town family, totaling about 22 people including children. This was totally an oversight on my part, I had discussed this with both my dad and sister weeks before and had completely forgot.  The good news, I had 24 hours to get my house in some form of order and figure out two things to make (an appetizer and a dessert).  The bad news, I had no time to run to the store so anything I was to make had to come from my pantry. So where else would I go, but my Recipes board on Pinterest! In doing so I came across this awesome recipe for Chocolate Pretzel Caramel Brownies, and they looked absolutely divine! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time or all of the ingredients to execute that exact recipe so I set out to make my own, quickie version and this is what I turned up with from the pantry.

I started by making the brownie mix just as the box directed in my trusty brownie pan. While they were baking I crushed up the pretzels.

Crush them as much or little as you prefer! I went with the consistency of peanuts used for sundaes.

Once they were baked and cooled, I cut them all into triangles and arranged them on the serving platter. Then, I melted down some chocolate chips in the microwave and spread a bit on each of the triangles and sprinkled each with some of the pretzels.

Finally, I drizzled them with some melted caramel and a little sprinkle of sea salt. Oh. My. Word. Were they amazing!

So Wonderful!

The entire pan was demolished and it went so well that I made the exact recipe the next day to take to my mom’s for family dinner. The husband was sweet enough to bake the brownies for me while I was teaching Sunday school at church, he was home with the youngest child who had decided to be up most of Saturday night. At mom’s we made them into brownie sundaes.  Also a VERY good decision!

So, if you’re in a bind for a dessert, I (and about 30 other people) highly recommend these brownies! 🙂

Have a great week!

Sweet and Salty Brownies

– Brownie mix baked as box directs

– Pretzels, crushed

– Chocolate chips, melted

– Caramel Sauce

Bake the brownies and while cooling crush the pretzels and melt down the chocolate chips. Once cooled cut into triangles and arrange on serving plate.  Spread a bit of the melted chocolate on each of the brownies followed quickly by the pretzel pieces, so they stick.  Finally, drizzle with warmed caramel sauce and enjoy!
